Ison Lotus - Ucon Acrobatics

Marine - bag addict -

Before sharing my opinion of this bag, I have to confess that I started out with rather positive preconceptions: I love the Ucon brand! I discovered them in Berlin a few years ago, when they were just starting out, and I already sensed their desire to do things... let's say, differently. I think their aim is really to create unusual objects, without selling them at outrageous prices. It's always exciting to see a brand emerge and develop, especially when it's created by young designers. Today, UA's showroom (an old rehabilitated barn) is located in Berlin's Friedrichshain district, where creatives from various fields (architecture, design, fashion, photography...) come together. Worth a visit... At UA, they organize their collections by material: in other words, their models are arranged according to the material used (you could also say that each model is produced with different materials).

For example, the Ison model is available in Lotus (the one I tested), but also in cotton, recycled PET, etc. Among all the samples I had in front of me, Lotus clearly stood out! This material resembles a kind of soft rubber. As it's been treated, it makes the canvas totally waterproof, which is (for me), indispensable: when I store my computer in it and go out on my bike, I'm not worried. Personally, I never load it all the way (I like to keep its rectangular shape), but it's much roomier than it looks: it came in very handy during my last trip as an "extra bag". Most of the time I use it to go to work: I store my Bullet Journal, my glasses, my case, my smartphone, a few books and my computer (I have a 13", but it's possible to store a 15" inside).

The pockets inside are really practical, and as the interior fabrics are light, I can find everything in no time. The finishing touches are impeccable: the zip on the front pocket is waterproof, so its shiny side stands out against the matte rubber. UA pays close attention to the materials used: all the materials used in this bag are recycled, right down to the details: the zipper puller, for example, is made from vegan leather. The back is lightly padded and the shoulder straps are made of felt, which is more than enough for a few hours' use: this is not a hiking bag, so I'm clearly not asking any more of it. I really enjoyed testing this little Ison. I've had it on my back regularly for several months now, and I've never had any unpleasant surprises, just positive comments from strangers! It's not a purely technical product, but I find it very practical and I like its volume as well as its aesthetics.
