Daypack - Chrome Industries

Thomas - founder / mad of backpacks -

I've been wanting to test a bag from Chrome Industries for a while now. I had heard from courier friends all the good things they think about their backpacks and clothes. I'm not a courier: I bought this bag to be quiet on my bike when I carry my computer, among other things. I love its 100% minimalist aesthetic, I like to go straight to the point and stay as discreet as possible when I walk around town.

It's undeniable: this backpack is totally suitable for use on two wheels. The front strap is reflective (little trick by the way? if you want to know if a screen print is resistant or not, scratch it with your sharpest fingernail! This one hasn't moved despite my numerous passages…), I can slip between the body of the bag and the front strap my "U" lock. On the other hand, I do not advise you to do it when the bag is empty because all the weight is found at the ends and you will work for nothing (see our article on how to properly load your backpack).</ strong>

The chest strap helps bring the weight of the bag well against you and the bag is 100% waterproof, so no risk of soaking your precious belongings. I take this opportunity to tell you a bit about “high frequency” welding. There are several ways to make two fabrics assembled together watertight: you can either glue them, or sew them and stick a sealing strip on the seam, or weld them by making them vibrate at such a frequency that the two materials will melt into each other. This last process is used for truly 100% waterproof bags, such as canyoning or fishing bags. A bag can be water resistant (it will protect your belongings from a heavy rain, for several hours, this is the case with almost all the bags we sell in our shop) or 100% waterproof (then you can totally go swimming with it, not a drop will get into it). This is the case of the Urban EX Daypack. Ordinarily, high frequency welded bags are significantly more expensive than others. We then understand the choice that was made by the Chrome engineers: in order not to explode the price of the bag, we had to remain sober in the design. If you look carefully at the joint of the weld, you can see reliefs: this contributes to the resistance of the weld.

The small braid on the zip is an advantage since it allows you to grab it more easily. However, there is no snagging point to pull on the main pocket zips and since waterproof zips are always more difficult to move than regular nylon zips (due to their plastic upper sheath) , you have to grab the body of the bag to open the main pocket. The small front pocket is also accessible from the inside, which is very practical. Inside I can store my 13-inch computer, my mouse, my books, my DVDs, a jacket... I'm not a very organized person but I really appreciate the different compartments inside. The back is made up of well-spaced pieces of foam: it is therefore very comfortable and above all, the air circulates well, which is really a plus (cyclists will know what I'm talking about!) Objectively, the finishes are breathtaking. breath. Really, not a sewing thread sticking out, not a burr at the welds, not a badly made bartak... The cutout of the small front pocket is mind-blowing, the assembly of the different parts presents no approximation... This bag is a concentrate of technology. Because, as often, the simplest and most minimalist objects are those that have required the most research. I let you see it by looking at my photos. This bag is guaranteed for life, but it is puncture-proof… so I hope you will live with it for a long time? . I leave you some detailed photos before moving on to my rating (more information on our rating criteria). Find this product in our shop.
